Agastya Muni is a great sage in the Indian tradition. He and his wife, Lopamudra, wrote several hymns from 1.165 to 1.191 of the Rigveda, thereby enlarging the knowledge base of the Rigveda. Agastya is said to have taken Vedic preachings to South India and across the Vindhya Mountains, which affected the southern culture.
He also initiated the Agastya Samhita, containing Vedic rituals, medicine, and scientific formulations. His teachings, which epitomize wisdom, humility, and dedication to spiritual progress, constitute the core of Hindu mythology and are revered throughout India.
Patanjali, whose name is also spelled as Gonardiya or Gonikaputra, was a Hindu thinker, seer, and writer. Best known for his compilation of the Yoga Sutras, which is the most important text in the philosophy of yoga, he has been a long-lasting influence on spiritual and physical disciplines all around the world.
Based on an analysis of his works, it is estimated that Patanjali lived between 2nd century BCE and 4th century CE. He also contributed to Sanskrit grammar through Mahabhashya, a commentary on Panini's Ashtadhyayi.
Siddha Bhogar, a disciple of Sage Agastya, lived around 550 BCE and is renowned for his mastery in meditation, alchemy, Kriya yoga, and yantric designs. A key figure in the Siddha tradition, Bhogar is believed to have taught these practices at the Kataragama Murugan shrine in Sri Lanka.
His most famous contribution was inscribing a powerful yantric geometric design onto a metallic plate and installing it in the sanctum sanctorum of the Kataragama temple complex.
Mahavatar Babaji is believed to be born on 30 November 203 AD, and is said to be an eternal guru living in the Himalayas. Lahiri Mahasaya was initiated into Kriya Yoga by him, and his teachings spread widely through Lahiri's disciples.
Recognition came when Paramahansa Yogananda wrote a whole chapter about him in his famous book, Autobiography of a Yogi. Babaji's spiritual presence continues to inspire seekers of enlightenment and Kriya Yoga.
Bengali Baba was one such guru of Swami Rama, the Indian yogi and founder of the Himalayan Institute. Swami Rama was born in 1925 in Garhwal, Himalayas, and was initiated into the spiritual journey by several gurus, including Bengali Baba who guided his early growth.
Swami Rama later became a famous figure conveying the teachings of yoga and meditation to the West, spreading the wisdom of his gurus to the modern world.
Swami Rama, founder of the Himalayan Institute for yoga, meditation, and holistic living, is considered one of the most influential yoga teachers and humanitarians of the 20th century. He was trained under Bengali Baba, a Himalayan sage who shaped his spiritual evolution.
He became known for his mastery of mind–body control and for bridging Eastern and Western spiritual traditions.
Swami Veda Bharati (1933–2015) was one of the most esteemed spiritual leaders who founded AHYMSIN and Swami Rama Sadhaka Grama in Rishikesh. He was the spiritual guide of the ashram established by his guru, Swami Rama.
Known for his scholarship in Sanskrit and mastery within the Vedic tradition, Swami Veda Bharati worked to spread the Himalayan yoga teachings globally.
